ii. Have a larger social justice discussion: a conversation among the parish as a whole to identify social justice areas to be addressed by Holy Redeemer (nest agenda)

iv. Mary Lou Milstead spoke to Lois Jones, Director of Help-By-Phone and co-facilitator of Safe Haven

iii. Bereavement Ministry: Hospice of Chesapeake held 40 people
i. tuition collection is at 100%
ii. school receives no subsidy from parish
iii. 255 students enrolled for ’07-’08 school year (15 over this year’s number)
iv. all teachers staying
v. 4 teachers teaching summer school; will have to find a place to house students while roof is being put on school
i. Bishop Holley was ecstatic over the level of preparation eighth graders displayed during Confirmation
ii. Confirmation included 2 high school students
iii. First Eucharist just took place and went will
iv. 4 RCIC children still to receive First Reconciliation
v. HRYG Beach Trip – June 24-June 30
i. ’07-’08 budget was approved based on average donations for last six months
ii. operating budget is balanced; does not allow for contributions to the school
iii. budget allows for weekly/maintenance/Easter/Christmas collections
iv. budget does not allow for capital expenditures
v. no slush fund included

i. 22 people have signed up (10% of the school families)
ii. 11 month system starting July ‘07
iii. goal is to move toward using Debit System for tithing program
i. only comments received were requests to see a compilation of hand-written comments
i. Private company did asbestos testing; all clean
ii. lowest of 8 bids - $110,000 (College Park company)
iii. next lowest - $120,000
iv. highest of 8 bids - $519,000
v. engineer’s estimate was $160,000

vii. checked for proper licenses and permits; Bob Pizzano has confidence in the two lowest bidders; Rita Thompson will do background checks

1. interview third lowest bidder ($124,000) – see if he will bring price down
2. ask for best and final bids from lowest 2 (3) bidders; take out sales tax
3. hope to make proposal to Fr. George by Friday May 25
4. wants to get this taken care of by June 2 so PAN Group can take over
ix. 12- to 14-man crew; done in 2 weeks
x. Have told these bidders that we would ask the company awarded the contract proposals of bids for roofs over the admin. Offices and AER
i. Parish can pay out of savings or
ii. Get a 3-5 year loan, if we have 75% of the cost, in hand
iii. Fr. George has to go to a panel of priests, Consultants, for the
iv. 20-year, no dollar warranty from the material providers
v. BIC provided 1-year workmanship warranty
vi. Joe Theis suggested the parish purchase a performance bond
vii. FOR NEXT TIME – How much has been raised for the roof, thus far?
i. 127 Category I families
ii. 95 of the 127 families have 1 child
1. these pay $190 over the “retail” price for educating a child at Holy Redeemer
iii. Category II families pay a surcharge
iv. we are not giving them a $1,200 savings
v. Council recommendation: send letter only to Category I families not meeting requirements
vi. school board agrees letter should go out
vii. give Mrs. Jones list of Category I families
i. Copy of memo from Archdiocese handed out by Fr. George
ii. Memo tells Fr. George to send a “dunning” letter to people who are not contributing what they pledged to contribute
