Holy Redeemer Parish Council

July 18, 2007

 

 

  1. Fr. George said opening prayer.
  2. All the members were introduced.
    1. Dave Fortuna was unable to attend.
    2. We need a youth representative.  Bobby Shaulis and/or Lynn Baker will contact the youth minister about this.
  3. President’s report (Fr. George)
    1. Father spoke about the roofs and the letter to Category 1 parents. (See notes under these two topics below.)
  4. Chairperson’s report (Ellen Davis)
    1. There were about 275 people in attendance at the parish picnic hosted by Fr. George.
    2. Approximately 200 ballots were cast during masses the weekend of elections.

                                                               i.      There were 3 write-ins.  These people may be approached at a later time to ask for their participation.

                                                             ii.      The new members are Rob Pannell, Dave Fortuna, Mollie Huitema.

                                                            iii.      Brenda Cooley is taking Bob Bixby’s seat and Sean Ballantine is now the School representative, in place of Rick Harman.

  1. Election of new officers
    1. Chair – Rita Thompson
    2. Vice Chair – Mary Wassman
    3. Secretary – Mollie Huitema
  2. Approval of minutes for May 23, 2007
    1. Questions were answered and information was clarified.  Council moved to accept minutes as amended.
    2. Lynn Baker will send the minutes to Carol Macknis to post on the website.
  3. Liturgy Committee report (Kathy Neiman)
    1. 4th of July mass was held.
    2. The first 1st Friday mass was on July 6th.  The next one is on August 3rd.
    3. Fr. Paul Collington will be facilitating a mini retreat for the liturgy committee on Saturday August 25.  It may be opened up to parishioners who are not on the liturgy committee.  Kathy will let the council members know.
  4. School report (Sean Ballantine)
    1. Enrollment is going up.  A lot of the new enrollees are from St. Mark’s.
    2. The school is in the black again.
    3. There was discussion of the school/archdiocesan policy for hiring teachers brought on by a question from a parishioner about the last vacancy not being advertised.

                                                               i.      This discussion was tabled and will become an item on the next agenda.

                                                             ii.      Fr. George will mail a copy of the archdiocesan policy to all council members.

                                                            iii.      Sean Ballantine will gather information concerning the school’s hiring policy.

  1. Christian Formation report (Lynn Baker)
    1. There was no information to report.
    2. Future reports will include information from Mary Katherine Theis and Marie Winterson regarding RCIA and RCIC.
  2. Roof report (Bob Pizzano)
    1. He checked the roof after that first rain and there was no puddling or leaking.
    2. He talks with the contractor every day.
    3. He is looking at the possibility of getting photo-electric cells on the church roof.
    4. We may have to put a mechanical ventilation system in to help keep the church cool.
    5. Bob is looking at contracting a new janitorial company because the school is not satisfied with the work being done by the current company.

                                                               i.      He is looking at getting service for all of our facilities.

                                                             ii.      Right now the school puts out $29,000 a year for janitorial services.

                                                            iii.      He does not know how much the parish contributes to this expense.

  1. Social Justice
    1. Lynn Baker has received only one inquiry about the bulletin item regarding Safe Haven.
    2. Fr. George will approach Dave Fortuna about heading-up an ad-hoc committee to brainstorm.
  2. Holy Redeemer website (Carol Macknis)
    1. She can only post what she receives.
    2. She is frustrated with the ministry/ministries that are not submitting anything to her.
    3. She is looking to the council to “get the word out” to others to use the website and to send items to be posted.
  3. The next meeting is Wednesday, September 19, 2007.
