SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK IN COMMON
Holy Redeemer Church
4902 Berwyn Road
College Park, Maryland
(301) 474-3921
Who can be anointed?
· The elderly…because of the aging process
· All those who have a serious illness (physical or emotional)
· Those who will undergo surgery soon
· Sick children…if they have sufficient use of reason to be strengthened by this sacrament
When does the anointing take place?
After the homily, Father will come to you in the pew and he will lay his hands on your head. After a Thanksgiving prayer over the oil, Father will return to anoint your forehead and hands with the oil. At Communion, he will come to you and give you the Body & Blood of Christ, if you unable to come to the altar. It is very helpful to pre-register for this sacrament when it is scheduled. (A notice will be in the bulletin to announce when this sacrament is scheduled.) The pews (with the pews in between kept empty) will be reserved for those with name-tags. Father will come through the empty pew in front of you to administer the sacrament.
