MISSION PREACHER: FR. STEVEN G. FRENIER, OFM CONVENTUAL

FROM SHRINE OF ST. ANTHONY, ELLICOTT CITY, MARYLAND

Fr. Steven G. Frenier, OFM Conv., is a native of Northampton, Massachusetts and received an A.A. degree from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. Fr. Steven entered the Franciscan community in 1975, and earned his Masters of Theology from St. Anthony-on-the-Hudson Seminary in Rensselaer, New York. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1982.

Fr. Steven was a parish priest for the first 28 years of priesthood.  He was a parochial vicar at the following parishes:  Sacred Heart in Danbury, Connecticut, St. Edward’s in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, and St. Stanislaus in Chicopee, Massachusetts.  He was pastor for 13 years at St. Francis Church in Athol Springs, New York.

During his 28 years as a priest, Fr. Steven also worked as a volunteer minister for hospice and nursing homes.  In July of 2010, he was appointed Director of the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City, Maryland, where he does spiritual direction, days of reflection, and also gives talks and retreats at parishes and retreat centers.
